And this is how it starts…
“Sorry mate, I don’t go South of the river”
A familiar cry to so many South East Londoners, that cruel retort from a cabbie that dashes any faint hope of avoiding the night bus.
South East London, the dark, remote, and inaccessible outreaches of our city; or those gloriously leafy, open, and most welcoming array of postcodes.
OnBlackheath throws scorn to any short sighted misgivings, and celebrates the true nature of our own very particular corner of London Town.
OnBlackheath, very much as it says on the tin, delivers an unforgettable two days of music, food, and family entertainment within an atmosphere that feels communal, inclusive, creative, welcoming, surprising, and offers an escape from the working week.
OnBlackheath, a festival that was started, like all good ideas, after a few beers whilst listening to music in a field back in 2008. A shared goal to stage something on our doorstep to celebrate this stunning area, with a festival to showcase some of the very best local and international artists, a food offering which we could shout about, and an engaging and fun experience for our younger audience. A weekend for the discerning music and food lover, of bizarre and wonderful fringe entertainment, and with a safe and nourishing children’s area.
Work, families and technology can all be overwhelming and OnBlackheath is a weekend to escape the ordinary, to discover and re-discover your passions and a place to inspire your children.
Some of the best weekends we ever had growing up were at music festivals and with OnBlackheath we hope to bring the spirit of those adventures to South East London.
