Ash (food lover and devotee cook, also former Street Food Manager for Jamie Oliver’s “Barbecoa”) is ‘The Cheeky Indian’: Traditional Indian flavours, techniques and equipment are used and abused to create a unique style of what he refers to as “Indianish” street food.
From humble beginnings at local farmers markets he has now pushed and pinched a way into trading alongside the creme de la creme of street food heavyweights on the mean streets of London where we have built up a very loyal following. He adapted Mammas recipes for the modern age- looking for different and unique vehicles to deliver typical zingy Indian/Desi flavours. Dishes currently on rotation include Freaky Tikki Chicken, Goan Beach BBQ burgers, Jumpin’ Jeera Wings to name but a few. The Stall menus generally have a theme and the current one is The Soho Lunch Box menu, which includes the Tasty Bird, Paneer Package and Beijing Booty! Ash takes most pride in producing all the marinades and sauces from scratch, insuring the flavour experiences are unique and cant be found on any other stall or restaurant. Sauces include the Mint and Coriander Chimichurri, B-Burner Hot Sauce and the Hot & Sticky BBQ Sauce. 2015 saw The Cheeky Indian being selected for the British Street Food Awards. Heats took place up and down the UK. Hundreds of street food vendors hoped to make it to the finals at the O2 in December. Ash and the team not only made it to the finals but also cemented their place on the hall of fame and were voted Top 3 Trader in the people’s choice awards 2015. 2016 holds much more in-store, with several new ventures and a range of products soon to be launched for the retail market.
