John Whaite is a British Chef, Food Writer and TV personality. Probably best known for winning the third series of the BBC’s The Great British Bake Off, John now runs his own cookery school, John Whaite’s Kitchen, set in the heart of rural Lancashire.

John presents ITV’s food programme Chopping Block with Rosemary Shrager, airing in April & May 2016. His third book, Perfect Plates In 5 Ingredients, published by Kyle Books, launches on 21st April. He is also resident chef on ITV’s Lorraine.

Food has always been John’s passion, learning at his mother’s knee and growing up on a dairy farm. There, he learned about British produce and the importance of supporting local food producers and artisan crafters. His parents also owned a fish and chip shop, where John started his first job – as potato peeler – aged just 10. Even earlier than that, he was always keen to make ‘a living’ from food, selling bags of pick and mix to his peers at school – without the teachers knowing, of course.

John then went on to study at Le Cordon Bleu, and gained a first class Law degree from the University of Manchester after declining a place to study at Oxford University. John decided to hang up the gown and don the apron, a decision spurred on after he won The Great British Bake Off. Following his win, he wrote John Whaite Bakes: Recipes for Every Day and Every Mood and John Whaite Bakes At Home.
